A Serendipity

Serendipity is when someone finds something that he wasn't expecting to find. In the simplest of words, it means a "happy accident" or a "pleasant surprise". At least this is the way that Wikipedia described the word.

I had one of those moments. It came at an unexpected time in an unexpected way. I was totally exhausted: mentally, physically and if I were honest, spiritually. Everywhere I turned seemed to be a struggle and life was not easy.

I was traveling from Hungary to Mississippi. My second leg of the flight was the Delta flight from Paris to Atlanta. I found my seat and was so happy that no one was sitting beside me. That meant that I could have a little more room to sleep and rest my tired body.

Someone from the crew was handing out the headphones. I plugged in my headphones to find out what kind of song selection was available. That is when it happened. In just a moment the first chords of Handel's Hallelujah Chorus began:

Hallelujah! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigneth. Hallelujah! The kingdoms of this world have become the Kingdom of our Lord, and of His Christ. And He shall reign for ever and ever, King of kings, and Lord of lords. Hallelujah!

The song was so unexpected and so wonderful. What a refreshment! Somehow the message came through in a way that it had never before. As one called to go to the nations, to pray for the nations, what a message!

Yes, this song was truly a serendipity: a pleasant surprise at just the moment I least expected it. Handel's Hallelujah Chorus
